Overview

In response to evolving user habits and challenges in the contemporary dating app landscape, our project aims to facilitate successful conversations, specialize interest matching, and meet chatting needs. We'll introduce features like guided prompts, precise matching criteria, and diverse chat tools. Our goal is to improve users' dating habits, making it easier to form meaningful connections and providing a more valuable online dating experience. While our current prototype hasn't led to significant changes, the feedback received will guide future iterations. We're committed to continuous innovation, seeking new ways to enrich the dating app experience and help users forge deeper relationships.

In the current dating app landscape, the primary goal is fostering meaningful human connections. However, users increasingly rely on surface-level criteria like looks and age, neglecting deeper compatibility. This leads to superficial matches and challenges in building substantial relationships. Additionally, users often struggle to initiate engaging conversations, resulting in bland interactions.

Furthermore, those with unique interests find it challenging to connect due to the lack of specialized matching features. Our project aims to address these issues by promoting deeper compatibility assessment, facilitating conversation starters, and improving niche interest matching. Ultimately, we aspire to reinvigorate dating apps, shifting the focus from superficiality to genuine, lasting connections.

Background & Problem

This project aims to enhance users' dating app experiences by implementing specific features. The primary objectives include enabling successful conversation initiation, facilitating connections among users with shared interests, and meeting users' chat-related desires. These design goals will guide the development of new functionalities within the app, ultimately improving user engagement and satisfaction. By addressing these aspects, the app intends to create a more conducive environment for meaningful connections and conversations, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.

Features

Home

The homepage will display other users within the distance set by the user and within the age range specified by the user. Users can determine their interest by getting to know each other's hobbies and external preferences, and they can swipe to make matches.

Set the hobbies

Users can set detailed preferences or create unique, proprietary label tags for their affinity groups, allowing other users to understand if there is a resonance through these tags.

Random Matching

In Random Matching, the system will recommend a number of potential matches each day along with the questions they've set as conversation starters. If a user finds a question from a match interesting, they can answer it to initiate the conversation. If not, they can choose to skip it, and the system won't inform the other person.

Chat List

In the chat list, users can browse their matched profiles along with their conversation history. They can also access profiles of individuals who answered their own set questions during Random Matching. By selecting the person they want to chat with, they can enter the conversation and review the chat history.

Chat

In Chat, you will find the conversation history with your matched partner. If it's a new match, the system will also display the question they've set, allowing users to respond to their question or use these question as a starting point to extend the conversation. This feature aims to make it easier to connect with others through shared interests.

Insufficient proactive chat engagement remains a challenge in our project prototype. Despite adding more input options to encourage diverse conversations, users still show reluctance in initiating chats. This issue requires innovative mechanisms to inspire users to start conversations actively.

Additionally, addressing the dominance of external conditions in matching remains a challenge. While we've taken steps to combat this, further data collection and testing are needed to help users prioritize compatibility over external factors.

As a committed dating app user, my aim is to enhance the user experience and create a distinct platform. Although our current prototype hasn't delivered significant changes, these challenges and feedback will guide our future iterations. We'll continue to explore new concepts and mechanisms to offer a more valuable and fulfilling online dating experience.
