Overview
In today's digital age, music streaming has become the primary way people listen to music, but existing sharing methods limit the visibility and interactivity of music. To address these issues, we have designed a music sharing platform called MUCOM, aimed at making it easier for music enthusiasts to share their music discoveries and resonate with more people. The current prototype already features music streaming and social functions, but we believe there is room for improvement. We will focus on two key aspects: first, optimizing the sharing mechanism to make it more intuitive and real-time; second, achieving a balance between the community and music streaming, ensuring that music remains at the core of the platform, and social interaction enhances the music experience. In summary, we are committed to continuously improving MUCOM through data-driven methods to make it a unique and user-satisfying music social platform, promoting the exchange and sharing of global music culture in today's digital era.
Music streaming has now become the primary way people listen to music, with platforms like Apple Music and Spotify providing immense convenience to users. However, despite revolutionizing individual music experiences, there are certain frustrating limitations when it comes to sharing favorite music. Currently, users have to rely on external social media platforms to share their music preferences, such as posting music links on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. This cumbersome sharing method is not very user-friendly and restricts the visibility of music sharing.

Furthermore, since music sharing is mainly confined within a user's social circle, this approach often generates limited reactions and resonance. Users' music recommendations usually only reach their familiar friends and followers, thus limiting music discovery and sharing opportunities. Such restrictions pose potential issues for both music enthusiasts and creators, as they might want to share their creations with a broader audience or discover new music from different cultures and backgrounds.
Background & Problem
The motivation behind our design project is to address these problems and provide a simpler, more direct, and interactive way for music enthusiasts to share their musical discoveries and resonate with more people. We aim to create an innovative music-sharing platform that overcomes the limitations of existing sharing methods and facilitates global exchange of music cultures. This platform will empower users to effortlessly share their music playlists, recommend songs, and interact with other music enthusiasts, regardless of their location. This will offer more opportunities for music exploration and interconnectedness, transcending personal circles and enabling music to be shared and appreciated worldwide.

Features

Home

Upon login, users find a personalized homepage with music recommendations, follow friends, and join communities. Explore artist profiles, stories, and user comments. Dynamic playlists adapt to your mood and activities, enhancing your musical journey.

Community

Community merges music discovery and social networking, analyzing preferences, suggesting new music, and connecting like-minded enthusiasts for vibrant interactions.

Friend

The Friends Page enriches the music experience, enabling shared favorites, algorithmic recommendations, and group insights. It fosters conversations on albums, concerts, and music news, strengthening connections and broadening musical horizons, seamlessly blending interaction and discovery.

Chat

In Chat, users can interact with each other by sharing music informations, discussing their favorite artists and their music, or engaging in casual conversations. Through these interactions, users can build stronger connections with people who share similar music tastes or have an interest in the same music.

Album/Playlist

In Album/Playlist, users can preview the music included and select the songs they like to listen to.
In summary, the prototype of MUCOM currently features attributes of a music streaming platform and social community plugins. However, we have observed that the current version shares similarities with how users have traditionally shared music on social media, and it hasn't fully captured our distinctive concept of music socialization. Therefore, I believe the issues present in the current version need further refinement and detailed data collection to understand user needs and feedback better. This will aid us in comprehending how to enhance and optimize the platform.

In the future iteration process, we will pay particular attention to the following two key aspects:

Firstly, the sharing mechanism needs to be more intuitive and real-time. We plan to conduct more user-friendly tests and qualitative interviews to ensure that users can easily share music and better understand their expectations for the sharing experience.

Secondly, we will strive to achieve a balance between the community and music streaming. Music should remain at the core of the platform, with social interactions enhancing the music experience rather than overshadowing it. We will work towards this goal by better integrating these two elements.

Overall, we recognize the current shortcomings of the project and are committed to continued efforts in making MUCOM a unique and satisfying music social platform through a data-driven approach.
